At an early age, guitarist Michael Allen Moore had a bright future as a swimmer, being
state ranked in the top 10 and qualifying for the Junior Olympics. He quit the sport at
age 12, partly because of the pressure of competition, and
partly because of his newfound love for the guitar. Although he won a music
scholarship to Interlochen at age 15, he was unable to go owing to a family illness.
This, however, did not deter him from studying jazz, classical, rock, ragtime and blues
styles of guitar playing, Over the years, his influences have included Steve Tibbets,
David Torn, Steve Howe (Yes), John McCaughlin, Collon Nancarow, and Steve Hackett
(Genesis). He moved to Los Angeles after high school to work on a music project which was stillborn when the singer died of cancer. It was a difficult and trying experience. "'Why am I doing this?'" he asked himself. "I seemed to be the only one saying 'What about the music?'"
Returning to Michigan, Michael studied music at college. He completed his BA in music therapy at Wayne State University in Detroit. As a member of Wayne State's Glee Club; he also participated in the Istafed Competition in Wales, a prestigious international choral competition in which his group came in third. He recently completed his graduate degree in occupational therapy at Eastern Michigan University.
When he isn't busy with House of Usher, Michael teaches guitar and plays classical guitar at private parties, galleries, restaurants, coffee shops and other local venues. You can drop Michael a line here
